Christmas Eve x Warmth Drive 2010/Helping Those In Need

On the morning of Christmas Eve 2010 @ 5:45am I headed to meet with my friends for my first annual Warmth Drive Family in DTLA.

With only 2 hrs of sleep, I had a photo project till 2:30am and woke up around 5:00am that morning; I was still determined to make it to this drive. Originally we were suppose to do it last Sunday, but because of the heavy storms we cancelled the warmth drive, but a few of the Warmth Drive Family decided to deliver the warm food portion last week regardless of the weather situation. Thank you Des, Kay, La, Virgil, & Leo for delivering the food and tarps the prior week.

Arriving a little late I met up with Des Magno, Kay Montilla, and the rest of the “Warmth Drive Family”. 4 carloads of warm items (blankets, fleece, gloves, & misc items) were ready to be distributed. Thanks to the friends and family of the Warmth Drive Family and in addition our good friend Roslynn Cobarrubias & Myspace Music for the Talib Kweli benefit concert last month, which helped, collect more warm items for this drive. (Check our last month’s blog on the Talib Kweli benefit).

Living and working in DTLA I encounter a few crazy homeless people in the past and also a lot of people who have had personal struggles, which ended them in the streets. Just like everyone else sometimes we feel like luck isn’t on our side and many things seemed to bring us down. Some of us recuperate and other fall hard. Fortunately I find ways to recuperate and make things better.

Des & Marvin Magno decided back in ’06 to gather warm items from family and friends to distribute during Christmas time. The Warmth Drive Family grew when Kay Montilla and a few of their friends started volunteering, organizing, and helping to distribute the items.

I try not to blog the same content from other blogs so I can make the Emortal site unique. I try to blog relevant things that relate to our streetwear culture, our collaborations, fashion trends, and events we sponsor, and sometimes-funny posts. In 1997 when I started Emortal, I promised to give back to the community when I get the chance. I never forgot that promise. FYI, if you never knew what Emortal stood for it means Extraordinary MORTAL.

The Warmth Drive Family are awesome friends & Extraordinary Individuals. Personal wealth is measured not by what you have but what you can give. Giving to those in need such as a smile, some necessities, and a sense of belonging can warm their hearts and spirits so they can keep on going.
For more info please contact Des or Kay at warmthdrive@gmail1215.com
MERRY CHRISTMAS from RawdLikesSushi & EMORTAL!!!!
